Our Staff

Projects we have delivered in Broome and the Kimberley include Broome International Airport, the Royal Flying Doctors hangar, Broome TAFE, Notre Dame, St Marys Secondary School, the Lions Eye Institute, the Kimberley District Police Station, the KAMS Regional Offices and Broome Sea Rescue Headquarters. We also delivered a $6.6 million fifteen unit development for Nyamba Buru Yawuru ahead of schedule. That commercial work is why we own the plant and employ the trades we do, and every home we build benefits from the same infrastructure.

Since Harold & Maureen Tracey created H&M Tracey in 2000, the team has grown to 30+ people.

Our highly qualified team is dedicated to providing a solution to ensure a successful outcome for your project.

Our culture

The relationships we have with each other are paramount to the success of H&M Tracey as we pride ourselves on mutual respect for one another, regardless of position held within the business.

This workplace culture permeates through the relationships we build with everyone we connect with throughout a project.

Harold Tracey has over 39 years of experience in the building industry dating back to 1987 when he was just a young lad completing his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship in Derby.

As a qualified carpenter Harold gained experience by working in all over Western Australia and in 2000 placed himself firmly in Broome where H&M Tracey was established. Harold continues to play an integral part in all of H&M Tracey's projects and the day to day running of the business. Harold's focus is on project delivery and quality outcomes.

Director/General Manager

Steven “Thommo” Thompson is a highly experienced leader in the construction industry, with over 20 years of expertise, including more than 16 years spent delivering successful projects throughout the Kimberley. After completing his Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction & Economics with Honours in 1998, Steven met Harold Tracey in Perth in 1997 while still a student. This initial meeting was the start of a 28-year relationship that has continued to thrive.

Steven moved to Broome in 2003 to join H&M Tracey Construction as an Estimator and Contract Administrator. His hands-on approach, strong leadership, and financial acumen helped him progress to Project Manager, General Manager, and eventually a Director of the company. Since acquiring a share in the company in 2007, Steven has overseen the successful delivery of hundreds of new homes and large-scale commercial properties across Broome, Derby, the Pilbara, and Perth.

Today, Steven manages the company’s financial requirements, organisational structure, and future planning. He also leads H&M Tracey’s daily operations, procurement, and management, ensuring that the company continues to set the standard for excellence in the region.

Brad Marris

Director / Estimating & Project Manager

Brad Marris joined H&M Tracey Construction in 2006 after earning his Bachelor of Applied Science at Curtin University—a path set in motion by a pivotal conversation with Harold Tracey during Brad’s teenage years. At 15, Brad considered leaving school early to pursue an apprenticeship, but Harold urged him to complete Year 12, and aim for university. Taking Harold’s advice, Brad not only completed his degree but also gained valuable work experience in Broome, a place that captivated him and ultimately drew him back.

Since joining H&M Tracey, Brad has brought his sharp skills and deep understanding of construction management to a diverse range of projects throughout the Kimberley. His leadership has been particularly influential in the successful delivery of key projects in remote indigenous communities—an area where his precision in bidding and project execution has been crucial. His ability to produce accurate, competitive bids has established him as a cornerstone of H&M Tracey’s tendering department.

In addition to his work across the Kimberley, Brad’s expertise has extended into the Pilbara and Perth regions, where he has contributed to both residential and large-scale commercial developments. With his extensive experience and a commitment to delivering high-quality results, Brad continues to play a vital role in the company’s ongoing growth and reputation for excellence in regional construction.

Matthew “Hally” Hall

Director / Construction Manager

In 2014, Matthew “Hally” Hall and his family made the bold decision to close their residential construction company in Warrnambool and relocate to Broome. By July 2015, they had packed up and moved with nothing but a rented house and their children enrolled in school.

With years of experience in new builds, renovations, and commercial projects, Hally sought work in Broome. After meeting Harold Tracey at H&M Tracey Construction, Harold gave him a chance, handing him the commercial plans for the RFDS Patient Transfer Facility and asking, “Can you build this?” Hally confidently replied, “Piece of cake.”

Starting as a Supervisor in August 2015, Hally led the successful delivery of the $3.9M RFDS Patient Transfer Facility, completed on time, under budget, and to an exceptionally high standard. This success led to further engagements, including the RFDS Jandakot base. His hands-on approach and strong leadership skills saw him rise to Construction Manager, where he now oversees site management and ensures all of H&M Tracey’s projects are delivered to the company's exacting standards.

David McKee

Project Manager/Director

David McKee is a senior construction professional with a strong technical background and a proven record of delivering complex projects across the Kimberley. After completing a BTEC National Diploma in Construction in 2004, he went on to earn a BTEC Higher National Diploma in Building Engineering and a Certificate in Industrial Studies through the University of Ulster in 2008. His early career in the North of Ireland covered precast concrete installation, drafting and Engineering design work.

David moved to Australia in 2009 and joined H&M Tracey Construction team as a Contracts Administrator in 2017. His commercial focus and attention to detail saw him progress to Senior Commercial Project Manager and, later, a Director of the company.

Today, David leads H&M Tracey's commercial projects, delivering everything from remote infrastructure to high-end education facilities, and ensures every project meets the standards the company is known for across the region.

All three came up through the business rather than being brought in, which is the reason we can commit to warranty work in year four and still be the same people answering the phone.
